Dr. Tobi Sonya is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pre-licensure Nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oral Roberts University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Maryville University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Johns Hopkins University, which she completed in 2025.

Dr. Sonya's extensive clinical background spans more than 12 years, encompassing roles as a Cardiac ICU Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner and as a Lead Nurse Practitioner. Her experience in critical care, telemedicine and primary care provide a solid foundation for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world clinical practice in her teaching.

Inspired by her belief that nursing is a sacred calling, she aims to develop culturally aware nurse professionals who serve their communities with compassion and excellence. Through her teaching and practice, Dr. Sonya is dedicated to training the next generation of nurses to offer holistic care that ministers to the mind, body, and spirit of every patient.
