Faculty Profile
Mark A. Vermilion is an Assistant Professor of strategic communication at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana. Mark brings three decades of experience into the classroom as a professional communicator, organizational leader, and educator.
Before coming to Indiana Wesleyan, Mark was the CEO of Amplify Consulting, a practice committed to increasing (or amplifying!) the organizational eIectiveness, reach, and impact of nonprofit organizations and their leaders. Mark served as the lead consultant for Amplify, working with over 50 organizations of varying sizes, scopes of reach, and missional purposes.
Mark has also served in an executive leadership role with five nonprofit ministry organizations, including as the CEO of Ichthus Ministries, Wilmore, Kentucky, where he directed the oldest and one of the largest Christian music festivals in the nation. He also served as the Vice President of Ministry Development for Kingdom Building Ministries (now Forge Ministries) in Aurora, Colorado, where he helped grow the organization’s ministry capacity and served as a content developer and speaker coach for a team of itinerant communicators.
In addition to Indiana Wesleyan University, Mark has served on the faculty at four other universities, including full-time positions at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He also served as the Director of Global Learning for Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he led the expansion of the seminary’s online program by developing and growing multiple extension sites across the U.S.
Mark and his wife, Katrina, live in Marion, and they have raised five children who are married to their four bonus children. They also love being grandparents to three grandchildren (and counting).
